Preloved Tuukkala brooch bronze
The prototype for this brooch, an exquisitely engraved silver brooch found in Mikkeli, dates from the northern crusades (1150-1250 AD). Lighter jewelry was replacing the heavier Viking style by that time, and the use of silver was increasing. The extensive floral ornamentation is evidence of the design’s eastern origin. The Tuukkala brooch was one of the first Kalevala jewelry designs, introduced in 1937, and it remained part of the Kalevala jewelry range till the 2010s. Diameter 46 mm. Bronze, stainless steel pin.
